Remember me? I have been gone for way too long! My sewing machine is covered in dust and my beautiful fabric has been waiting on me patiently to return! It's like an old friend that is always there for you.
Over the past year so much has happened. Sage has just turned one. Sydney is loving second grade and makes me proud of her each day with her spirit and confidence. I have been out in the working world. I must say, it's fun to be around adults, but I miss my children so much! So, after long discussions with my husband we have come to the conclusion that I am needed at home more!
So, Monday will be my last day at work. I have a neglected house to clean up and a sewing room that needs to be dusted. I am so looking forward to getting in there and going through all my patterns and stroking some fabrics!
My goal is to have a baby outfit to work on by next weekend! I hope I remember how to smock!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-10062993082426896382011-03-30T11:30:00.001-04:002011-03-31T11:10:06.858-04:00Sister Tuck DressesI have a love affair with tucks and pleats and box pleats. I just love the small details of them. I have made Collar's Tuck dress for Sydney a couple of times and every time I love it so much. I haven't found the right fabric for it for about 2 years now. But after seeing Creations by Michie's Apron Dress had a tuck version I knew I had to make the girl's matching dresses.

This delicate lawn has been in my stash for a couple of years now. It is so thin and airy I want a gown out of it, but alas, I only had two and a half yards of it. So, I had just enough for matching tuck dresses for the girls.

Sage's dress is a newborn size. She is almost two months old now and I am hoping to get their pictures made in them on Saturday. I know I could have made a larger size, but I wanted her dress to fit her.

Sydney's dress is a size 8 and she has plenty of room. She should be able to wear hers all summer long. I made hers sleeveless for those hot Florida days to come. Sydney is already so tan she should be beautiful in this white.

Here is a picture of Miss Sleepyhead this morning. She is only awake for about an hour a day, so I have to really be ready with the camera if I want to see those pretty blue eyes.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-15384600848866171192011-03-28T21:20:00.000-04:002011-03-28T21:20:26.651-04:00Easter ThoughtsThis year Easter sewing is sneaking up on me. Probably because I am having such a wonderful time squeezing on baby legs and talking to my sweet new addition. I am smitten, I must admit. I forgot just how wonderful every day is when I see her discover something new or just stroke her soft head and play with her hands.
Sydney has spring break this week so I have a helper when I want to do something. That helps alot! She is really a wonderful little helper. We are going thru magazines and machine appliques and thinking of spring things for her and I am constantly trying to coordinate in my head something for the baby. I am in heaven!
So, today I thought I would share with you some of my favorite things I have made for Sydney for Easter.

This was the last year I was requested to make a matching dresses for all her babies. It was a pink swiss dot that I made Sydney Collar's yoke dress and her babies all had matching yoke dresses. We were a huge hit at church with all her babies.

Sydney loves Beatrix Potter's Jemima Puddleduck. I think I have read that story to her a hundred times and every time she laughs and giggles the whole way through it. So when I found this cute smocking plate I knew I had to make it. This was the same year as the pink dresses. The pattern is Children's Corner Mary De out of orange chambray.

Here is the cute Mommy with all her babies following her.

This next one is a redrafted Children's Corner Lucy. I still have some of this fabric and I think it would make a cute bubble. Mmmmm! Maybe this year...

When we lived in Williamsburg, Easter was usually about the time a cold front would appear out of the blue. So I made it a habit of making a coat for Sydney when thinking of her dress I would also pick out some corduroy for a matching coat. It was wonderful to have a beautiful set.

This one was soo many roses that I don't know what I was thinking. The dress was a yoke dress and the coat was from Children's Corner. I also made the matching bonnet.

Here is another coat and dress combination. This time the Fabric Finders floral and the lavendar corduroy all came from Bessie Mary.

I used Children's Corner Mindy for Sydney's dress.

I surprised Sydney with her babies in their dresses Easter morning.

And last but not least is this Mary De. These floppy bunnies all looked a little different, but I figured in real life they do too.

Okay, off to the sewing room to figure out this year's matching girl's dresses. The countdown is on! I hope you enjoyed looking at some of my past Easter creations!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-60971882152045781002011-02-25T14:02:00.001-05:002011-03-11T11:26:08.208-05:00Pretty in PinkAnother day another sleepy baby in a beautiful daygown. I love this! Today we ran some errands and had lots of ooooh's and aaaaah's over how sweet she looked in pink. Everyone told me that she looked like a little doll dressed so sweetly. I felt so proud that I was able to sew for my girls. I always feel sorry for those babies in just a onsie out and about with their parents. Who wouldn't want to dress their little angel like this?
I think I have found Sage's color. She is so pale that pastels look so sweet on her and with the pink in her skin tone it really does look good on her. But I am bias, I believe.
She wore herself out so after a late lunch she sacked out on me before I could prop her up and pretty up the bassinet. So this is the only picture I got of her today.

This is one of my favorite Old Fashioned Baby patterns. It's called Sweet and Simple daygowns and it is anything but simple, but she has it right with sweet. It has these wonderful pleats under the arms and on either side of the front. The other day, Sage wore one it green. I think I need to go see what colors of lawn or batiste I have so I can whip up another one. Here is a picture of it when I first made it.
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-67375685056041212572011-02-24T20:49:00.000-05:002011-02-24T20:49:46.049-05:00My little angelAs I finish up some pretty Spring dresses for my girls I had my little angel in white. I made this cute Old Fashioned Baby daygown and love how it looks on her. I see more white dresses in her future. I love the simplicity of this little dress and the delicate tatting on the sleeves and neck. The sleeves are a bit long on her little arms, but I am sure in the coming months she will grow into them nicely. Here is a picture of the dress when I made it.

And here is my angel wearing it. I agree, that these daygowns are much cuter on a little one. What isn't cute with that sweet round bald head!

Sage has finally figured out that the paci really does make it all better. I didn't do a pacifier with Sydney and instead walked many nights rocking her back and forth in my arms. Until she discovered her two fingers that stayed in her mouth for years it seems. So this time I gave in and decided that I would give it a try. It really does soothe her while she is trying to sleep. So much better on Mommy and sleeping too!
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-16566144517401419072011-02-23T09:54:00.000-05:002011-02-23T09:54:39.325-05:00Another day another daygown modeledYes, I am having just way too much fun playing dress up with my new baby girl. I love being able to dress her now. It makes those months of making daygowns and imagining her in them so satisfying.
Today, while I sit and sew her a new baby dress, she is happy sleeping and showing off this beautiful daygown. It is Old Fashioned Baby's Sweet and Simple daygown.

Today I plan on finishing up Sage's dress and working on Sydney's. I am very pleased with them so far. I think Sage's needs a diaper cover so I will riffle through my patterns and try and find one that has bloomers for newborns. I am sure I have one somewhere. Any suggestions?Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-48833003997358582432011-02-21T14:55:00.000-05:002011-02-21T14:55:20.598-05:00Naptime in a daygownThis morning after bathing my two girls I put my new baby girl in one of the daygowns I made her. Well, this one to be exact.
Although it was a little large, I loved it! I think with this wonderful warm weather my baby will be in daygowns every day so look for some modeling shots!
I love every minute of it. I love smelling that sweet head and giving soft kisses to her neck. I forgot just how precious and these days are and just how fast they go by. I am trying to savor each and every second of these lazy days with her when she just eats and sleeps.
Here is a little project I finished up right before I went to the hospital. It is a Children's Corner Jaime Bubble in a 3 month size. I love little ones in bubbles. It makes stuffing them in the carseat so much easier. Nothing upsets me more than a wrinkled up baby in a beautiful dress. So I can see lots of baby legs out and free in this little ones future.

This adorable pima cotton has been in my stash for a couple of years. I love the pale shade of blue and will look really pretty on Sage when she finally holds those baby blues open for longer than ten minutes a day. I asked Sydney if she wanted something to match and she looked at me and said, "I am not a baby, Mommy! That's a baby fabric." I was thinking the same thing, but just thought I would ask. Which is why it has remained in my stash for so many years. I have lots of baby fabrics that I am so glad to be able to use up now.
This morning I happen to catch her eyes open after she ate her late breakfast. I quickly grabbed my phone and snapped this picture. Those dark blue eyes are really pretty and I sure hope they stay that way. They are the same shade as my grandmothers. I remember staying at her house and looking at her pretty face and wishing I had those pretty blue eyes. It makes me wish she were here to see all the things I have made for my girls. She passed before I had either of my girls and is the one who taught me to sew.

This is how I most of the time see her. She is in her carseat and ready for our morning workout. We have been walking the neighborhood and loving the Florida warm weather.

Here is my latest sewing project. I am thinking some spring dresses for my girls. I love this sweet floral lawn. Hopefully, I can work on this today a little bit.
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-23123903874465537432011-02-15T10:29:00.000-05:002011-02-15T10:29:02.208-05:00I am thinking Spring today!I know here in Florida that we really haven't had much of the winter weather, but with this wonderful spring weather we are having right now I am in the Spring sewing mood. I have been pulling out pretty florals in my stash since yesterday and I have quite a few lawns and piques that need to be baby dresses and bubbles for Sage and sweet sundresses for Sydney.

So, to start off my spring sewing I thought I would show you some of my favorite spring dresses from the past.
This first one is just a very simple smocked front peasant dress. With just a touch of smocking this dress was a huge hit everywhere we went that summer.

This dress is still one of my favorite things I have ever made for Sydney. It is an AS&E pattern and I love the effect of the trellis stitch worked on the backside of the floral fabric. And the ruffles just made it so girly. I had Sydney's picture taken wearing this dress and I can look at her sweet face wearing this dress every day when I walk down the hall.

These cute seersucker dresses were made for a customer of mine. What child doesn't like ice cream cones? So these were a huge hit with them all spring and summer time long.

This adorable little set will be a staple in my house for the next couple of years. I can make this set without even looking at the directions I have made so many of them. Also, in about an hour and a half I have a complete outfit that uses up hardly any fabric at all. Here are two of them.

And since April showers bring May flowers then a sunbonnet Sue set is always festive for little girls. I love making an aline jumper and then a matching blouse with it. Just makes such a pulled together look.

And lastly, here is the same dress pattern but this time I shortened it to top length and added a ruffle. Made some capri's and here is a preppy little set.

Okay, now off to my sewing room to cut something out. I feel very inspired and I hope I have inspired you to start some spring sewing.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-53064957962664636112011-02-14T10:46:00.000-05:002011-02-14T10:46:11.639-05:00Happy Valentine's Day!I love love love Valentine's Day. I think the cupids and little hearts just bring smiles to my face. Sydney has been cutting out hearts on little squares of paper for days now.

Today she had her Valentine's Day party at school. She was very excited addressing just the right Valentine's cards yesterday. It was very cute.
Since I have a newborn, I did not make her a dress like I normally do for Valentine's Day. This year I let her pick out a machine embroidery heart for me to put on a ready made dress from Montag. Add some red leggings and we have a fun casual Valentine's Day outfit. She was pleased and loved the shade of blue with the red.

For some reason, she refused to smile showing her teeth this mornings. Oh, the joys of having a 7 year old. It could have been her baby sister crying the background was just too much to spark a smile.

So, what are your plans for this wonderful Valentine's Day? I plan on giving lots of hugs and kisses to my family and maybe cut out some construction paper hearts and decorate the dinner table tonight.
I think Chad was way more excited about it than Sydney was. It was loud and dark in the cafeteria and Sydney doesn't like either of those things. She was ready to go after about 30 minutes. But here is her dress. I chose a satin batiste in cornflower blue. The pattern is from AS&E. It is called Garden Party. I added half and inch to the back just to give her more room when giving Daddy big hugs on the dance floor. She said she felt like a princess wearing it. The bow in her hair is a 3 inch double satin ribbon in cornflower blue also. Both from Farmhouse Fabrics.

I did a very simple 5 step trellis for the smocking and used sapphire seed beads. Loved the simplicity of it.

Chad ended up having a tie that perfectly matched her. They were just cute as can be going out on their "date".

At the dance they had another proud father take this picture. I wished I could have gone and just snapped pictures of them.

But, I had better things to do...I had to smell my sweet baby's head and give soft kisses to her forehead. I was in heaven.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-62386462985197538142011-02-05T20:19:00.000-05:002011-02-05T20:19:39.470-05:00Baby Sage is hereWell, Tuesday morning at 8:03 am baby Sage Piper was born. She is the cutest thing I have ever seen. Well, other than Sydney, of course! She weighed in at 7 pounds even and was 19 inches long. Tiny and sweet! Here is Sydey showing her off. She is one very proud big sister.

Coming home outfit ended up being the white swiss flannel gown by Grace Knott. The weather was a little cool and she was just swimming in anything else I brought.

Here we are leaving the hospital room.

She is the best baby. She eats and sleeps so well. I have gotten more sleep in the past couple of days than I did the last month I was pregnant with her. She has to be awakened just to eat. Four hour stretches are not uncommon. We feel so blessed and are really enjoying all of us home and just cuddling with the newest sweetness in the world. Life is indeed good!

I need to recover so I can go make something sweet and little bitty for her to wear. I am thinking either another Grace Knott gown or maybe a very tiny bishop.
I have been asked if she looks like Sydney, and she does. She has the same cute button nose and lips. Her coloring looks paler than Sydney and her hair is much lighter. It will be fun to see if it changes. Her eyes are very pale too.
Have a great day. I will be spending the next couple of weeks just smelling that sweet round head and playing with cute baby toes.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-3346025652131527142011-01-25T16:43:00.000-05:002011-01-25T16:43:51.294-05:00Baby Bubble BuggyI love these little diaper shirts and cover. The pattern is Creations by Michie's Diaper shirt and Cover. It is a wonderful way to do a little shadow work on a sweet baby outfit. This one is a size 3 months. I made it out of scraps of white and pink broadcloth. Talk about easy laundry! No ironing needed. The bias binding is a floral lawn.

My one wheel looks a little wonky. But for some reason, I sort of like the imperfection of it so I didn't go back and and redo it. Would you have?

I am getting down to the wire here. I have 7 days left before I check into the hospital. I have two more things I have to get done. One for the baby and one for Sydney. I sure hope this baby doesn't decide any surprises and wants to make an appearance early or I am in big trouble.
Okay, back to smocking!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-87338721560910047672011-01-20T14:20:00.001-05:002011-01-20T14:25:16.454-05:00Coming home outfitOkay, I think I have my mind made up. This is the one I will bring home my new baby in. It is Old Fashioned Baby's Emma smocked dress. I love the sweet lace and soft pink color of the baby pink pique.

I am in love with the delicate look of these sleeves. Aren't they just the sweetest thing ever?

Here is the yoke embroidery and the smocking. It really didn't take that long to do it. It is so small. I loved doing those sweet bullions. I used floche for all the smocking. I love doing bullions with floche. They end up so smooth and perfect every time.

This pattern went together so well. I can see making more of these sweet dresses. It just makes me smile to look at it. I am getting so excited!!!
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-49922092804940342122011-01-12T10:22:00.001-05:002011-01-12T10:37:15.341-05:00Valentine's InspirationsWell, yesterday I put away all those Christmas decorations. Sydney helped and complained about having to put them away the whole time. She doesn't see why we have to put them all away. I can't wait until she grows up and go over to her house at Easter and Santa is going to be beside the chocolate bunny. I can see it now. The child is all about Santa and Christmas.
So, while looking for inspiration today I looked back over some Valentine's outfits I have done for Sydney in the past. I thought I would share these with you. Along with some other ideas that would work for that sweet holiday. In other words, I am procrastinating...

This is one of my favorite patterns. It is such a quick smocking project with the small patches but it is so sweet on. I think I have used this Children's Corner pattern for every holiday there is. I just love it.

My sweet girl likes to do the princess poses. I don't quite remember which one this is, I think it is Belle's pose, but it turned off really cold for Valentines last year so this dress was in a very fun wild corduroy. There are lots of hearts in different colors. I think I got it at Hancock's Fabrics. I love this style of dress on little girls. It isn't babyish but still looks like a little girl.

This is a quick jumper out of some quilter's cotton. The weather was really cold and I was afraid my little one would freeze but I had to use those cute heart pockets so this was one year's Valentine's outfit. So I put her in a turtleneck and thick tights. She loved the dress and she wore a huge coat over it, but was very happy at her Valentine's party.

Here is a better shot of those cute pockets and the bright fabric. Aren't they adorable? I may have to use them again on something else. This is Bonnie Blue's Lydia pattern. I love the swing style of the jumper.

Even a simple yoke dress could work for a Valentine's Day party. This one is Collar's yoke dress. I enlarged the collar to get that monogram on it. I think I had to add an inch to it.

Here are some sister bishops that have little hearts in the design and they would be so cute too. Adorable cute pink floral, what could be better?

Okay, so what to do this year? I tried asking Sydney, but she was distracted by coloring so I guess I am on my own on that one. Maybe a machine embroidery this year would work. I have seen some really cute ones lately. With my countdown being at 20 days until baby comes I need quick and fast for this outfit.

Hopefully, I got your wheels going on Valentine's day too. It is right around the corner.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-20577732402739730262011-01-10T12:28:00.000-05:002011-01-10T12:28:45.593-05:00Warm and cozyBecause this crazy weather this year has me making one thing in lawn and the next in flannel, it is flannel time again. So, I have this wonderfully soft pink flannel and decided on a quick daygown from Collar's Layette. This went together and completed in less than an hour. I used a floral lawn for the bias binding and to cover the buttons. I will have to remember this when I am going to a baby shower next time, it would be a wonderful gift and so many options.
I will say that it does seem large though. Not something my baby will be wearing coming home, that's for sure. It looks more like a 3 month size, at least.

Also, I have finished up a newborn diaper cover. I love the look of these. The cute pink bow and flowers on the booty make it so sweet. I love doing shadow work and this was so fast. This pattern is called Double seat panties. I can see lots of cute variations that could work for these. Also, the fact that the pattern goes from newborn to size 6 makes it a great one.

Here is a little sneak peek at what I have been working on lately. I am thinking this might end up being my coming home outfit for our baby. It is just too sweet not to get lots of pictures in. I need to get busy working on all these UFO's I have since I will be going to the hospital in 22 days now. I know these last few weeks are going to fly by.

Okay, back to work now.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-26229141942337828232011-01-04T22:26:00.000-05:002011-01-04T22:26:11.498-05:00New Year and a planHello 2011!!! I have so much planned for this year starting with a countdown to the delivery date. Yes, I have an exact date to expect my sweet baby girl to arrive. So, that being said I am on a speed sewing quest. I have piles of things cut out and outfits in various stages of completion. Which is totally unlike me! I don't like UFO's and rarely have any. I like to work on something and then move it on out of the sewing room and start on the next project. I feel a sense of accomplishment that way. So this newfound chaos I am blaming on the baby hormones. I am going in 100 directions all at once and not getting anywhere fast. So frustrating!
So, this year my New Year's Resolutions are as follows:
1. Do as many sister outfits as I can. (Yes, this one is a total fun one!)
2. Lose the baby weight. Really, honestly, I am not too worried about this one. I love to workout and have already got the jogging stroller picked out. I can't wait for the go ahead to start walking again. I miss that time to clear my head and breath the fresh air.
3. Join some women's groups and make some friends. I think SAGA in my area will have a new member and Junior Women's of Orlando will also be getting a fiesty new active member in the coming months. I need some girlfriends! I miss my friends from Williamsburg so much. There is just something about getting together with friends for a cause that I really like and miss.
4. I would also like to get to a sewing class or school this year. Don't know if that one will happen, but it sure is a goal.

So, what are your New Year's Resolutions this year?Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-84649798360695154052010-12-28T13:42:00.000-05:002010-12-28T13:42:32.901-05:00Raglan DaygownI love love love daygowns. I never had made one before a couple of months ago. Now, I can't make them fast enough or often enough. I love OFB's patterns and this one is particularyly great for embroidery. I did the embroidery that was included in the pattern which made it so easy.
The fabric is blue swiss batiste. I loved stroking it and working with it.

I used ecru entredeaux, lace and embroidery. I love the classic look of it.

This pretty embroidery design was in the pattern and it turned out so much fun to do all those lazy daisies and so pretty.

These sweet sleeves make me smile. I can just see chubby little fingers and a chubby little hand with dimples peeking out them. Oh, I just can't wait to play dress up!!!!

And because every proper young lady needs a matching slip, here is this one. My shell stitching needs more practice, but it coming along nicely.

Okay, back to work! I have lots of sweet things cut out on my dining room table just waiting for embroidery designs. Did I tell you I was having too much fun? So many patterns and ideas and so little time!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-88225651153651537272010-12-26T17:01:00.001-05:002010-12-26T17:06:53.970-05:00Sweet baby bishopYes, I know, Christmas was yesterday and I should be sitting and resting, but I am on a tight schedule now. I have about a month before my little one gets here. So today I cut out slips and diaper covers and something to sit and smock. I should be all set for the next couple of weeks with projects. I just hope to get them all done. I am also thinking of Easter already. I hope to get that finalized by the end of January so I can get started on them. I am thinking after the baby is born my sewing time will be cut for a while. If memory serves me correctly...

Here is a little number I finished about a week or so ago but just now getting around to sharing. All that mistletoe and cooking and wrapping has gotten in the way.
Now, I ask you, is there anything sweeter than a baby in a bishop? I don't think so! Here is a 6 month bishop smocked with Ellen McCarn's April pattern minus the flowers. Very simple but sweet. I have enough for Sydney to get a blouse out of this for Spring. I am thinking a pink skirt and a sweet blouse and they will be adorable together.

I did the eyelet on the sleeves and used it to detail the growth tuck at the bottom of the dress. I also piped the neckband with a pink gingham mini-piping. Hard to make it out in the pictures though. I need to get better at my photography skills. I am just not used to all this sun down here in Florida. Something I plan on working on to get better at in 2011.

I love that bishops can be worn for such a long time. Makes all the time making them seem more worth it. Now, what to smock next? I can't sew fast enough these days. That pesky sleep keeps getting in my way! These last few weeks of pregnancy are making me very sleepy. Hope your holiday weekend is relaxing and you are getting to do what you like today.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-17362578969635198682010-12-22T11:13:00.000-05:002010-12-22T11:13:16.938-05:00Cold Weather LillianHere is a quickie! Just a Children's Corner Lillian pattern and a shift dress for my little one. I love this pattern because it goes together in less than an hour and takes up about one yard of fabric. It is fully lined in a cranberry broadcloth and I did black grosgrain bows on the slits on the side.
This featherwale corduroy has little mushrooms and squirrels on it. Very sweet!
This was taken last week when the weather was still cool.
It was about 50 degrees when I picked her up from school, but she has boots like it is a snow storm outside. She is fitting into the Florida lifestyle just great. If it is below 70 then everyone here has a coat on. Totally cracks me up!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-82826476447038730062010-12-20T22:37:00.000-05:002010-12-20T22:37:28.384-05:00Christmas and beyondCall me practical, but this year I just couldn't get myself to make Sydney a dress that she could only wear for a short while. So when I went stash digging a couple of weeks ago I was so excited to find about 4 yards of this Fabric Finders pima cotton floral. It has all the right colors, but it sure could work for Spring too. And then once Sydney saw it she said she wanted a twirlly dress and it was sold.
I chose to do a classic bodice dress. I love this one from Collar's. Great pattern. Wonderful fit and I love the curve in the front that curves down. It fits their cute little tummies that tend to bow outward. I did the view with the eyelet trim to fancy it up some. I just love eyelet trim. It looks so little girly to me. It makes me smile to see it on a sweet little girl dress.

I also love a large sash in back. I wished I would have lengthened this one a bit though. The directions called for it to be 25 inches. I think about 30 inches would have been better. But for potty breaks this one is probably safer.

Here is a close-up of this sweet floral and the collar. I have about one yard of this fabric left and I think the new baby will definately need a sweet baby dress out of it. Sydney is more excited about that fact than anything else. Which just makes me so happy. I love doing sister dresses. I feel so blessed to finally get to do them for my own little ones.

Well, that is the end of my Christmas sewing for this year. Tomorrow the shopping must start. I have a very lonely Christmas tree as you can see from the pictures. Tomorrow Sydney and I will do damage to the Visa card. I am thinking we need to go out to breakfast first though. Have fun this holiday season.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-56063526708491697222010-12-14T22:10:00.003-05:002010-12-14T22:21:06.352-05:00Another look at Christmas pastI am on the hunt for inspiration right now. So as I was looking at fancy Christmas dresses I have made in the past, I thought I would share some with you. I know, I said I was not going to do a fancy one this year, but Sydney's Girl Scout group is having a fancy tea on Monday (yes, this next Monday) and on the invitation it states that they should wear their Christmas dress. So...here I am on Tuesday night frantically trying to decide if I have enough time to smock something or if I should just go with hand embroidery. My husband thinks I have lost my mind at this point.

This is still one of my favorite bishops I have ever made for Sydney. It is Christmas Mice smocked on white pique. I thought she looked like an angel wearing it. I still remember putting all those glass seed beads on while she played in the bathtub. She wore this for two years and I was sad when she finally outgrew it.

Here is a close-up of all those beads. I think I got a little carried away.

A couple of years ago Sydney wanted a red corduroy dress for Christmas. I fell in love with this swiss edging and incorporated it into a slip. I had just enough to make Dolly a matching dress. I am so glad I did too because this was the last Christmas that Dolly went everywhere with her.

I made the collar detachable. I was afraid of washing white linen with red corduroy. I did a very simple shadow embroidery and added tatting.

Here she is with Dolly. I love this picture.

Here is Dolly in her Christmas dress too.

And the slip details. I loved how all this fabric just poofed out that dress so well. Here you can see the swiss edging I just had to use.

And I even did matching socks with a little satin bow and eyelet that I zig zagged on to them.

And she was a doll when she met Santa. Oh, man, why do they have to grow up?

Okay, off to the sewing room to figure out what I can make in less than a week that still will live up to what my baby expects out of a fancy holiday dress. Wish me luck!Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-15773533561503231862010-12-14T09:20:00.000-05:002010-12-14T09:20:53.762-05:00Paisley PurseI never thought I would need so many warm clothes for my little one when we moved here to Florida. I kept thinking that I would have my large stash of corduroy forever just waiting for a cold spell to pull it out. Well, we are freezing here!!! So I have been digging thru all of it and thinking of warm things to make.
Yesterday I made this quick outfit for Sydney. This is a corduroy that Sydney picked out at Joann Fabrics about a month ago.
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-37506784099850076652010-12-11T12:53:00.000-05:002010-12-11T12:53:52.214-05:00Possible Coming home outfitI am not sure what to make to bring home baby in late January. I was told by a wonderful friend of mine to go for Grace Knott's Nightgown because it will be small enough for a newborn. This is made from a swiss flannel in white. I smocked it in a pale pink and no real bells and whistles on it. I think the simplicity of it is why I am not completely sold on it for a coming home outfit. But the feel of this cozy fabric is swaying me.

I do love this swiss edging. I bought it at the SAGA convention a couple of years ago and I have 10 yards of it. So you will be seeing it alot in the next couple of months. In fact, a bishop I just finished has it. I will post that on another day.
Sydney had to show off a little too. I call her Vanna because she loves to show off things that I make. It also shows just how tiny this outfit really is. You will just have to excuse her outfit. She got hot and took off her cute top and just had an undershirt on.
Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8514571055641890498.post-36563294025171227532010-12-10T09:52:00.000-05:002010-12-10T09:52:08.421-05:00Peppermint girl and a baby coatHere is another Christmas Quickie. I am loving these this year. This is just a plain long sleeved t-shirt that I did a machine embroidery of a peppermint on and some fun quilter's cotton that we found in my stash. It has lots of cute peppermints all over it. I used my go-to Children's Corner Sassy skirt pattern. I am loving these on her. This one is view B which is just a gathered skirt with a lining. I lined it in white Imperial batiste and did it the exact same length so it sort of shows when she moves. Thankfully, we are having a warm day and she can wear it with knee highs and not a thick pair of tights.

Now, because we are having these cold days I figured it might be a good idea to make the new baby a coat. I used Collar's Layette and did a coat and a bonnet. This wonderful fabric is from Heirloom Imports. It is a brushed twill. It feels like a wonderful soft flannel. And in this wonderful blue flowers with a pale green I think it will be so pretty on our new baby. I just love a baby girl in blue. I had just enough to squeeze out a coat and matching bonnet. I lined it in a pale blue swiss batiste.

Love the bows on the bonnet.

This fabric was first used to make Sydney a Children's Corner Maggie. I pulled it out yesterday and wished my baby was still small enough to get into it. Why do they have to grow up so quickly. Makes me sad. I also don't understand why they are getting older yet I stay the same.Piperhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14237799512113285681noreply@blogger.com0
